Sunday, January 19, 2025 Rose Bowl Half Marathon Water Station

Let’s show the city and all the runners what a great group of friendly people we are and why are the Pacer running clubs are the best!!!

We need volunteers to set up and hand out water and to cheer for the runners on the Half Marathon route. The Pacers will have two water stations and plenty of room to cheer (just east of Norton Simon Museum and Ralph’s) — please join us for this fun and rewarding event. Your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors are encouraged to come to cheer and help, too.

You are SO IMPORTANT and appreciated! The volunteer shift is from 5:30 am – 10 am.  All the “day of ” volunteer info will be sent via email closer to the event date.  Please wear your Pacer shirt or a redshirt.

Family, friends, and co-workers are welcome to volunteer.

An email with parking details, road closures, etc. will be sent out on January 15th. Below is the information in the email.

Hello Volunteers!

Thank you so much for volunteering to help at the Pacers Water/Cheer Station at the Pasadena Half Marathon this Sunday morning.  You are awesome!!!

Below is some very important information — I know that it’s a lot to read but please review it so you’ll know where to go, how to get there (since roads will be closed), what to bring, where to find your parking pass, etc.

final Instructions below.

When and where do I need to be?

  • Date:  Sunday, January 19th, 2025
  • Time: 5:30 am to 10:00 am.  It’s very important to be there on time. We must set up and be prepared for the 8,000 or so runners/walkers who will be passing our water stations, so please try not to be late.
  • Location: 300 W. Colorado Blvd, Pasadena (in front of Rusnak Auto Group, just east of the Norton Simon Museum and Ralph’s supermarket). Our two water/cheer stations are across the street from each other. They are located at approximately miles 3 and 7.75 on the half marathon route.
  • Volunteer Parking Pass
  • Volunteer Instructions

How do I get to the area and where do I park, since there will be road closures and no parking zones?

  •  A lot of the roads in the area of our water/cheer stations will be closed by 6:00 am. (please see the attached map with road closures). To best avoid driving issues, be to the location by 5:30 am.
  • There will be no parking on Colorado Blvd. and South Orange Grove, since they are part of the race route and cars parked on these roads will be towed away. Other roads in the area may also have parking restrictions.
  • Print the attached Parking Permit and place it on your dashboard.  This Parking Permit may help you get your vehicle through some street closures (but not if it’s too late in the morning).
  • The Parking Permit will also allow you to park in areas with “2 Hour Parking” or “No Overnight Parking” for the duration of the race.
  • It is recommended to find street parking on Green St., Pasadena Ave, and other side streets in the area. Remember to put the Parking Permit on your dashboard.
  • Please avoid parking in red zones and/or in private parking areas – you may receive a ticket or have your vehicle towed (and Pacers will not be responsible).

What do I need to bring, what should I wear, what about food, etc.?

  • Wear your Pacers gear (e.g., shirt, windbreaker, and/or hat). If you don’t have Pacers gear, please try to wear red.
  • We want the runners/walkers to see a sea of red. Volunteers often wear their Pacers/red shirts over their sweatshirts or heavier jackets to show more red.
  • Wear closed in shoes and bring jackets, sunscreen, sunglasses, and other outdoor gear, since you will be outdoors for hours and the weather can change. If rain is predicted, bring rain gear too.
  • If you plan to run runners to/from the water station or to give them encouragement by running them up the hill (in front of Norton Simon Museum), please wear your running shoes and dress to run.
  • The McCourt Foundation may provide some small or limited snacks — sorry but breakfast will not be provided — so we recommend that you bring food or snacks for yourself and/or your friends. There will plenty of water and Nuun for you to drink.
  • Food, coffee, other hot drinks, and more will be available for purchase at Starbucks and Ralph’s nearby.
  • Portable toilets should be nearby.
  • If you have family or friends who want to volunteer but who have not signed up, just bring them with you — the more the merrier.
  • After the water stations are closed and cleaned up, volunteers often go to the Rose Bowl to watch the end of the race, enjoy the post-race activities, meet friends, etc.

What are the attachments and what do I need to do with them?

  • Map and road closure details for you to review. The lower left-corner provides “Simplified Downtown Detour Information”.
  • Parking Permit to be printed and left on your dashboard. This will allow you to park in “2 Hour Parking” or “No Overnight Parking” for the duration of the race.

What if I have any questions?

  • Please send any questions to michaelr.pasadenapacers@gmail.com or ask leadership on Saturday morning.
  • If you plans have changed and you are no longer able to volunteer, we will miss you but we understand.

Thank you again for volunteering. It will be fun a fun morning and it will be far less complicated than this email makes it sounds.

Regards,

Ben
